Jan. 21 ceremony to mark CR 486 completion


The Board of County Commissioners and county staff on Jan. 21, 2014  will host a ribbon cutting event in celebration of the completion of Phase 4 of County Road 486.

The ceremony will be at 11 a.m. at the northeast corner of State Road 44 and County Road 486.

Representatives from Florida Department of Transportation, TBARTA, engineering and contracting firms will be present as well.

Bays elected to TBARTA board


Citrus County Commissioner Rebecca Bays was elected on Dec. 13 to the executive board of TBARTA.

TBARTA, the Tampa Bay Regional Transportation Authority, is responsible for policy direction and implementation of transportation planning.

Citrus County is a TBARTA member. Bays has served on the TBARTA Board since she was elected to office in 2010, and she is currently the Chairman of the Legislative Committee after being appointed to that position in January 2013.

County transit system expansion declared successful


The county says the Citrus County Transit System expansion program has been successful during its first year, and that the numbers testify to it.

The county expanded the deviated fixed route service in December of 2012.

Since that expansion, county officials say that passenger ridership has more than doubled, and ridership surveys reflect great customer service.

In December of 2012, the Transit System served 2,768 passengers, with numbers doubling in November 2013 to 4,559 passengers.

Comcast changing government channel beginning in January


Comcast has announced it is launching Xfinity for Inverness area residents around Jan. 21, 2014.

When that occurs, the Board of County Commission meetings will be aired on Channel 71 instead of Channel 9.

All Comcast customers, regardless of level of service, can view programming on Channel 71.

County names park after Alexander family


The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners on Dec. 17 presented a proclamation to the Alexander Family of Hernando, proclaiming that day as “Alexander Family Day.”

In honor of their significant contributions; the BOCC will rename the "Hernando Railroad Way Park" to the "Alexander Family Park".
