Mobile home burns in Hernando

Firefighters logoNo injuries were reported during a mobile home fire on Monday in Hernando.
 
Citrus Sheriff Fire Rescue on Friday was dispatched to the structure fire at 7139 N. Nature Trail, where they found a single-wide mobile home with fire and smoke showing.
 
The structure was fully involved with fire. 
 
A defensive attack was initiated after home was confirmed unocupied.

Students find leaky toilets

In celebration of the EPA’s “We’re for Water” initiative, Citrus County Utilities challenged 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classrooms to test home toilets for leaks in the third annual Classroom Leak Detection Challenge.
 
Twenty-nine classes from six schools tested 593 toilets using dye tablets provided by the utility. 
 
 “The students were surprised to learn that toilet leaks occur within the tank and bowl, not necessarily outside the toilet (leaking water on the floor),” said Forest Ridge Elementary 5th grade science teacher Kathy Kopp.

Sword-wielding man stabs woman to death

A gruesome case of apparent rage surfaced on Sunday in Hernando and ended with the murder of a woman and the suspect arrested and charged with the crime.
 
Just before 10:30 on Sunday, Citrus County deputies responded to a home on East Benjamin Street after receiving a call that a woman was being stabbed.

Suspect identified in Sunday's chase, shooting

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office on Monday identified the man who was said to have shot at the Sabal Trail pipeline, then fled and was later killed by deputies in Citrus County.
 
The man has been identified as Leroy Marker, 66, of 150 Smallwood Dr., Chokoloskee, Fla.
 
Marker died of his injuries after engaging law enforcement officers and was shot and killed.

Sabal Trail incident leads to chase, suspect's death

Citrus County deputies, Marion county deputies and the Florida Highway Patrol were led on a wild chase from Marion to Citrus County after a man shot at a pipe in the Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline. The man was stopped near Floral City, and when he engage deputies, he was killed in the process. (PHOTO: Citrus County Sheriff's Office on February 26, 2017).
Protests against the Sabal Trail natural gas pipeline went to another level on Sunday when a man began shooting at the pipes in Marion County, and fled to Citrus County, where he died after being shot.
